Yasmin

Yasmin and Yaz were originally manufactured by Berlex Laboratories and are currently manufactured by Bayer Healthcare. The generic Yaz is called Ocella and is marketed by Teva Pharmaceuticals. Yaz birth control and the generic Ocella are relatively new fourth-generation birth control pills containing the progestin drospirenone. Unfortunately, since there are no long-term studies regarding the safety of this new synthetic hormone there is limited information regarding serious Yasmin problems like blood clots and related complications such as heart attacks or strokes. These contraceptive pills are currently on the market and no Yasmin recall has been announced by the manufacturer or the FDA.

Yasmin and Yaz are combination hormone birth control pills containing ethinyl estradiol (estrogen) and drospirenone (progestin) hormones. The hormones prevent the ovaries from producing an egg. The lining of the uterus also becomes thinner inhibiting a fertilized egg from being implanted. In addition, the cervical mucus becomes thicker which helps prevent sperm from entering the uterus.

Yaz vs Yasmin – What is the difference?

Yasmin birth control works on a 21/7 dosing schedule which means that you take the regular Yasmin pills for 21 days and inactive (sugar or placebo) pills for four days.
